This project is one of our most recent, but nonetheless a very important one. Unfit for Purpose –The Safeguards Fail examines the effectiveness of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Established over 25 years ago the CPS has failed to prevent several miscarriages of justice. It has also failed to prosecute on financial grounds rather than evidential.
Unfit for Purpose – The Safeguards Fail reviews the performance of the CPS with reference to its Code for Crown Prosecutors. It questions why the CPS has escaped scrutiny while less important bodies such as the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) and Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) are subjected to calls for their abolition. Nevertheless, the CPS has failed to prevent inappropriate prosecutions with reference to its Code and refused to prosecute cases on grounds other than sufficiency of evidence or public interest. Unfit for Purpose – The Safeguards Fail suggests radical changes to fix serious flaws in the criminal justice system
