Vindication is the most potent force to change criminal justice systems in several jurisdictions. We have pioneered the concept and highlighted its potential to help prevent miscarriages of justice or even prevent them. In the DNA age it will occur more often and in some countries murders that have not happened have been solved. Each of these cases offers a chance to learn lessons and help prevent recurrence and provide inspiration to other countries. These opportunities must not be wasted.
Vindication – International is a pro-active project that empowers the victims of such cases to demand justice – restorative justice – and change criminal justice systems. Our International Projects and Activities committee member Mpagi Edward Edmary was himself the victim of such a case. His case was adopted in this project before he joined. It is one of two very unusual vindication cases in Africa. There are vindication cases in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australasia as well. These are difference-making cases. This project highlights them and empowers then to demand that the causes of these miscarriages of justice are identified and rectified.
