He became one Of the Founding Fathers of Haiti, but bizarrely, is the least known of them outside Haiti and Venezuela.\r\n\r\nHe became the most implacable opponent of slavery, but unlike Wilberforce, Clarkson, Lincoln et. al he never got the credit he deserved.  Soon tribute will be paid to The Liberator, but Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar (Sim\u00f3n Jos\u00e9 Antonio de la Sant\u00edsima Trinidad Bol\u00edvar y Palacios  Ponte-Andrade y Blanco) - now you know why he is known as Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar - would have been another in a long line of failed would be Liberators had it it not been for P\u00e9tion.\r\n\r\nTwice the Liberator came to P\u00e9tion cap in hand begging for help. Twice P\u00e9tion assisted with ships, arms, men and resources. He asked only one thing in return.
